This episode was also ridiculously good, although perhaps not quite as good as its predecessor (then again I'll be surprised if any episode in this series is as good as that).
Things begun with an unnecessarily cute scene, a reassuring sign for all kyoani fans as it lets us know that while they continue to make unique and quality shows, they have no qualms about throwing in copious amounts of inexcusable moe.
The frame of the episode
Look Sakamoto!
dude, wat?
This goes on for ageeeeeeees, and yet not a moment too long
Lol is that a tamagotchi?
So in this episode, there is quite a bit of daruma happening, including the game where you stack one on top of a tower of blocks and try to knock the blocks out one by one without disturbing the daruma. This always reminds me of kinniku banzuke, a Japanese gameshow where they play a giant version of this game with a sledgehammer. It was the first place I saw reference to this activity, and looks like a lot of fun:
but anyway, apart from playing this game in the show (in a very small scene), the professor gets into a tricky situation with Nano's daruma, not understanding the reason why they only have one eye drawn in (traditionally daruma are symbols of perseverance, one eye being filled in when a goal is determined by the owner of the doll, often the recipient of a gift, and the other eye is filled in upon attainment of that goal.) Anyway, enough paraphrasing Wikipedia history lessons, more screenshots:
in Japan, they doin' it for the lulz too.
in stitches
everything turned out better than expected! (lies)
everyone's favourite font
um, yep....
So the final scene was another drawing scene, and my gosh it was good. This time it was Yukko trolling Mio, more or less, along with a bit of help from sensei. It was a simple scene, with a simple joke, and yet it was just executed brilliantly
At first she was like
So I was like
But then she was like
